He was employed as Collector of Hearth Money in the district of Wicklow when he married Ann, daughter of James Fitzgerald of Carrigbegg in county Carlow in March 1782.[2][3] They had:[4]

  • Richard, eldest son born 1790,[5] died July 1804 aged 14[6][7]
  • Daniel, born 1791[8], referred to in August 1827 as eldest son who served as a "midshipman in the navy, and is now currently employed in the coast guard"[9] He died 9th January 1835 at Cushendall in county Antrim where he was the Chief Officer of the Coast Guard[10]
  • Francis, born 1794[11], who married Elizabeth, daughter of John Curry on 24th October 1815[1][12][13]
  • Eusebius (see Burke's Landed Gentry 2003)
  • James Herring[9]
  • Ellen, married James Plowman a Lieutenant in the Carlow Militia on 10th February 1807,[14][15][16] he died in 1814,[17] she died in July 1838[18]
  • Catherine, second daughter married James Murphy at Tralee on 7th April 1812[19][20]

  • Margaret, born 1789 [23], who married Alexander Eagar[1]
  • Agnes, born 1792[24].

Eusebius also was an under sheriff and a coroner.[9] He retired as coroner in April 1828 and was replaced by his son James.[25]

He died in Tralee on 29th August 1836 “in his 83rd year”.[26]

Research Notes

Possible Descendants; not Proven: Possible descendants of Eusebius McGillicuddy and Anne Fitzgerald:

  • Jeremiah McGillicuddy b~1867 Ireland.
  • Michael Fitzgerald b~1865 Ireland.
    • Jeremiah and Michael are listed next to each other on this passenger list. My guess is that they are cousins travelling together.[27]
