Biography

Andrew Beckwith was a son of Richard Beckwith, born in New London, Connecticut, in about 1733. Record of his birth is not known; the date is estimated from his age at death. He and five siblings were baptized in the First Congregational Church of Lyme, Connecticut, on 20 September 1741.[1]

His first marriage was to Ruhama Peck of Lyme. They married by 20 June 1759, when they sold land that had belonged to her deceased father. [1]

Birth records for the children of Andrew Beckwith have not been found. Their birth dates, birth order and mothers also are not known; most or possibly all are estimated to be the children of his second wife, Catharine Shailer. The following children were living in 1804:[1]

  1. Cate, m. Alstead 25 Nov. 1785, Judah Hatch
  2. Richard, m. Alstead 1 June 1786, Levina Hatch
  3. Phebe, m. Elisha Kingsbury, intentions Alstead, 10 Jan. 1790

  7. Andrew, m. Alstead 31 Dec. 1799, Sally Morse

Additionally, Benjamin Brooks Beckwith, born at Alstead, New Hampshire, on 10 June 1786, is purported to be his child, but is not mentioned in probate records, although he was then living.[1]
