Biography

James Bomforth was born before the 30th June 1842, in East Retford, Nottinghamshire, the son of John Bomforth and Harriet Theaker.[1]

On the 6th June 1841 the Bomforth family were living at Chancery Lane, East Retford, Nottinghamshire. Home at the time were John (35-39, head of the household), Harriett (40), and their children: Harriett (13),Sarah (10), Eliza (6), Mary (4), George (2), and baby James (not yet named, 0), and Nottinghamshire-born Elizabeth Longbottom (57).[2]

The extended Bomforth family emigrated aboard the Olympus, departing from Gravesend, Kent, for New Zealand.[3]

James Bomforth passed away in 1903.

Notice of his funeral was published in the Nelson Evening Mail.

FUNERAL—THE Friends of the late JAMES BOMFORTH are respectfully informed that his Funeral will leave the residence of Mrs Goodwin, South street, TO-MORROW (Tuesday) AFTERNOON, at 2-30, for the New Cemetery. ALFRED SHONE, Undertaker.[4]
