Lesley E. Voorhees Records, Vol. 1, states there is a War of 1812 marker on Josiah Root's grave.

It was Josiah Root's will to give all his real and personal property to his wife, Polly Root, and upon her death, it was to be distributed as follows:

Son Josiah Root is to receive the premises he occupied when the will was signed, the property being in the town of Lysander and bounded by lands owned by George Root and William Wilson and the state road [present-day Route 48], containing about 33 acres, being all the land that Josiah owned on the east side of the state road except one acre in the southwest corner, said acre to be in the shape of a square. Josiah is also to pay his sister Louisa Myres $400 in four equal annual payments of $100 without interest. Daughter Loisa Myres is to receive the $400 from her brother Josiah.

Son Jerome B. Root is to receive 35 acres of land in the town of Lysander known as part of the Hopper lot, one-half of the timber growing on the said Hopper lot, but not the land on which it grows. Jerome is to pay his brother Elijah Root $700 in seven equal annual payments of $100 each without interest.

Son Elijah Root is to receive the $700 from his brother Jerome B. Root.

Son Horace Root is to receive the rest of the said Hopper lot, being the part between the land given to Jerome and the testator's old homestead, containing about 39 acres of land, subject to a right of way or road to the lands given to Jerome B. Root along the north line of lands owned by William Wilson. Horace is also to receive the one acre of land on the east side of the state road that was excepted from the land that the testator willed to Josiah. Horace is to pay his brother Charles Root $800 in eight equal annual payments of $100 each without interest.

Son Nathaniel Root is to receive the remainder of the real estate known as the old homestead in the town of Lysander bounded by Garret Bink, William Wilson and the state road, containing about 10 acres of land, subject to a right of way or road used by the testator to access the Hopper lot and to be used by Jerome B. and Horace Root to access the same land. Nathaniel is to pay his sister Mary Jane Warner $300 to be paid in three equal annual payments of $100 each without interest.

Son George Root is to receive $10.

Son Charles Root is to receive $800 to be paid to him by his brother Horace Root.

Mary Jane Root is to receive $300 to be paid to her by her brother Nathaniel Root.

Wife Polly Root and son Josiah Root were named executors. Josiah signed the will with his mark (x).

Witnesses were George Hall and Fred A. Marvin, both of Baldwinsville.

Residence 1842, Lysander, Onondaga Co., NY.^{[18] [19] [20]}

Before 1842, Josiah Root and family migrated from the Mohawk Valley to Lysander. He purchased a large tract of land on the southeast corner of Hortontown and the State Road intersection, south of the first schoolhouse. Josiah Root won the bid to repair the schoolhouse for $1.87, which included banking it with timber, stone and dirt; plastering and repairing the windows; and shingling around the chimney.

In 1858, Josiah Root purchased property in the Town of Lysander, lot 67, from J.J. Hopper. In 1857, Josiah and Polly sold lot 68 to G.W. Root. Josiah served as clerk of the Root school district in 1861 and as collector in 1862.
