Biography

Solomon Mackler was born in May 1852, likely in the Austrian Empire.[1][2]

Solomon married Lyba Edelmann and they had their first (known) child, Mordcho Leib in 1878 in Trembowla, in the Ternopil region of Galicia in Austria-Hungary.[3] They had three more children, Beila, Jenta, and Israel.[4][5][6] Then the last, unnamed, was stillborn in 1888. Lyba died, possibly in childbirth or thereafter in 1888.[7]

Solomon married Rose Rintel and they had their first child, Lyba, in 1889 in Trembowla.[8]

Solomon emigrated from Austria-Hungary to New York around 1889. His wife and children joined him in 1891. They lived in New York City where Isaac, Mollie and Dora were born.[1][9][10][11][12]

In 1900, Solomon and Rose were living at 17 Leonard Street in Brooklyn, New York with their children. Their son David was born in 1900 and is only a month old in the census. Solomon worked as a blacksmith. He may have also been known as "Harris" as that is how he was recorded in the census.[1] They had another son in 1902, Jacob, while living in New York.[2]

Solomon and Rose later moved to Stamford, Connecticut where Sylvia was born around 1907.[12]

Solomon died on 21 November 1907, at the age of 55, in Stamford, Connecticut. He is buried at Agudath Sholom Cemetery in Stamford, Connecticut.[13]
