William Robert Kennedy was born on the 4th of March 1838, the son of John Kennedy and his wife, Amelia Maria Briggs. [1] He was born at Naples in Italy where his father was the British chargé d'affaires at the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. [2]
He married Edith Louisa Stopford, daughter of Captain Edward Stopford and his wife, Julia Maria Wilbraham on the 11th of June 1868 [1] at Daventry Parish Church. [3] Their daughter, Alice Emily, was their only child. [2]
He was Commander-in-Chief of the East Indies between 1892 and 1895 and Commander-in-Chief of the Nore between 1900 and 1901. [1] On the 22nd of June 1897, celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria William was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath. [2]
On the 19th of June 1911, celebrating the Coronation of King George V, William was promoted to a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath. [2]
William died on the 9th of October 1916 aged 78. [1] His death was registered at Daventry in Northamptonshire. [4]
