Oh my...Grandpa was born in Bimini in 1895 to Clement and Melvina (Saunders)Pinder.
He had 3 siblings; Ida, Leila and Franklin Blake Pinder.
I remember Grandpa telling me they were called "Limey's". English? I guess.
I have so many memories of my grandfather and grandmother while growing up. (Thanks to my parents taking us there every other summer to visit). My grandfather was a fisherman and had a charter boat which he took clients out for day trips in Miami. I have pictures of his vessel and family on day trips. I remember my older sister catching a shark on a hand line. I also remember bringing up coral/sea fans on these lines. One night, my grandfather cooked dinner for us while visiting. He told me it was 'Swiss Steak", knowing my love of animals;it was a turtle!! Grandpa used to tell me that fish was "brain food". I failed in the Pinder aspect of this. But I LOVE GRISTS with cheese. He also made the best. I still make these for comfort food today.
