Cotten went on to marry John's aunt and many years later John Babcock was called to the Supreme Court of Alabama to give witness as to John's grandfather's opinion of Reverend Cotten. John testified he had often heard his grandfather curse Cotton bitterly. His words lent legitimacy to grandfather's sanity when cutting Cotten out of his Will.
