Biography

Walter was born in 1879. He was the son of James Greenstreet and Mary Nagel.

The 1880 Census^[1] shows him at age 1 in the home of his parents in Drake Township, Macon County, Missouri.

He married Vella Lile on 8 Oct 1899 in Goldsberry, Macon County, Missouri. Their children:

1. Norva Irene Greenstreet, (1899–1970)
2. Carl J. Greenstreet, (1901–1981)
3. Ival Ruth Greenstreet, (1902–1950)
4. Helen Clara Greenstreet, (1904–1987)
5. Olive Cerese Greenstreet, (1908–1926)

The 1900 Census^[2] shows him at age 21 with his wife and first child in Drake Township, Macon County, Missouri.

The 1910 Census^[3] shows him at age 30 with his wife and five children in Drake Township, Macon County, Missouri.

The 1930 Census^[4] shows him at age 50 with his wife Vella living in Strasburg, Adams County, Colorado.

The 1940 Census^[5] shows him at age 60, with wife Mary living in Englewood, Arapahoe County, Colorado.

His WWII Draft Registration Card^[6] in 1942 shows his nearest relative's name as Vella. It also says that he owns and operates a grocery store.

He passed away in 1945.^[7]

Research Notes

The 1940 Census^[5] shows a different name for his wife. This "Mary" may well be the same person as his wife "Vella" as she is about the same age, and a record of a second marriage has not yet been seen. Then in 1942, his WWII Draft Card^[6] confirms that Vella is his nearest relative.
