Biography

Letta (Cary) Bledsoe is Notable.

Letta Cary Bledsoe was one of the first two Black women to graduate from the University of Iowa (along with Adah F Hyde).^[1] Immediately after graduation, she became the chair of the Modern Languages department at Bishop College, in Marshall, Texas.^[2][3]

Letta Cary was born in 1889. She was the daughter of Alfonse Cary and Lucy Brown.^[4][5]

In 1917, she married Dr. Ovid Bledsoe in Mahaska, Iowa.^[4][6]

She died in 1931^[5][7] and is buried in Powder Mill Cemetery in Marshall, Texas.^[8]
