James was born about 1838 in Roane County, Tennessee. He was the son of James Hinds and Rachel Abel.
He passed away September 13, 1863 in Kingston, Roane County, Tennessee from an accidental gunshot wound. James was laid to rest in Glen Alice Cemetery, Glen Alice, Roane County, Tennessee, United States. [1]
Research Notes
People confuse James Carter Hinds with James Cravens Hinds who are related but not the same man. James Carter Hinds was married to Rutha Caroline Hinds and James Cravens Hinds was married to Phoebe C. Holloway. The two men were both born in Tennessee about the same time, have the same first name, the same middle initial and both have wives with the middle name Caroline which makes it rather confusing. Please verify that you are adding information to the correct man.

Hinds-1889 and Hinds-2039 appear to represent the same person because: They have the same children and parents as well as birth year. I accepted the wrong information and after double checking the sources realize I had a different man. Since the death year was different this James Hinds did not appear as a match.
