Preston Bassett lived on Parley Lane in Ridgefield when I knew him. He was an eclectic collector and his colonial home was filled with his many and varied collections, some displayed in odd drawers. Riverboat water containers were displayed in a window to let the sun accentuate their deep colors. His lectures on colonial artifacts in the Keeler Tavern were fascinating and came from a deep knowledge and understanding of the history of the area which he willingly shared. He had bright and lively blue eyes. In his 80’s he would walk home from the Keeler Tavern even on cold winter evenings.
