Biography

There are many different names for Diana. I have personally always assumed that it was "Dinah" and others were misspelling, however the other names I've come across were spelled as Diana, Dinah, Dixie, and Dicey.

Many records found online say that Dinah was born in Henry County, Virginia. However, that is just where she resided when she came to this country. I am not sure if it's was the first place she settled, but through YDNA it's been confirmed that Dinah was born in Ayrshire or Lanarkshire, Scotland. She was born to John Culpepper Wilson and Sarah Martin. Not to be confused with the John Wilson that descending from the McFarland's. It's been noted that the Wilson family owned much land in Scotland, and ran a factory in the area. Not sure of the exact occurrence that caused them to move overseas. The Wilson family also gave their family members nicknames!

It's documented on Ancestry that Dinah had a girl in Scotland named Jeanie, I have not found any documentation of this. I assume she was of age at the time they were migrating and she decided to stay in Scotland. I assume she is not Billy's child.

I am not sure if John was given the name Culpeper before or after he moved to Culpeper, Virginia. It may have been used as a way to differentiate him from others with the same name.

Dinah lived in Henry County, Virginia for a period of time, and also briefly lived in Jackson County, Tennessee. She has started having children in Bedford County, and then migrated to Jackson County, she had many children there as well, and continued to have them after she settled in Ohio.

She and Billy were among the first settlers in Mason Township of Lawrence County. They built a lovely family in Wilgus, Ohio and attended Fairview Baptist Church, which is also a cemetery for the older Payne's that first settled there.
