He married Rutha Elizabeth (Springer) Holils, the daughter of Jonas Springers and Anna Brashears, marrying in Lawrence County, Tennessee on October 13, 1853.[2] and having twelve known children together. They made their home together in Wayne County, Tennessee[3] where, in 1860, Jasper had at least one enslaved person in his household, a female, age 13.[4]
When war was declared, Jasper enlisted February 5, 1862, serving as a Captain in the Confederate States Army, leading Hollis' Company in the 54th Tennessee Infantry.[5][6]
After the war, he returned to Tennessee, resided in District 11 of Grainger County.[7] As Reconstruction ended, Jasper and his family moved to Texas, as did other disgruntled secessionists, settling in Throckmorton County.[8]
Widowed in 1889, Jasper Hollis remarried, marrying "Deborah," a woman twenty years younger, and they, along with his son, William, lived in Tom Green, Texas.[9]
Jasper Hollis passed away in Seymour, Texas[citation needed]one day before his 70th birthday and is buried at Throckmorton Cemetery in Seymour, Texas.[10]
