Confederate soldier US Civil War. Private in the 11th Missouri Infantry.

In a letter from Cyrus McPherson, he wrote that James had built a Gattling Gun and headed for the Dakota's during a small gold rush and was never heard from again.

In a letter to his father Isaac by brother Matthew Stevenson McPherson, it was asked if his brother Jim had left his wife Mary.

This is from a letter written by Matthew McP to his father which he mentions James McP. "have you heard anything from brother Jim if not what is the cause of Jim's leaving Mary do you know. I have wrote some six letters to him and got no answer yet so I think there is something strange about him and her. She says that they never had any trouble but I dont believe it or he would write to her sooner."
