William was born on 27 April 1795 Wexford, County Wexford, Ireland. He is the son of Jonas Watson and Harriet Colclough.
William married Martha Richards on 1 August 1820 and raised 11 children.
William and Martha moved to South Wales in 1823.
William Jonas Watson died prematurely on 17th October 1845, aged 50. He was laid to rest at St Margaret’s, Roath, alongside his mother. Cardiff records of 1901 indicate that there was a mural tablet on the west wall of the transept which read :”To the memory of William Watson, fifth son of Lt Col Jonas Watson, died 1845 aged 50.”
