Colonel John Blakeney was the son of Colonel John Blakeney and Grace Persse.
He did not marry, but is recorded as having at least three illegitimate sons, mothers unknown.
He gained the rank of Colonel in the Galway Dragoons. He gained the rank of Captain in the Lord Blakeney's 27th Regiment of Foot.
He fought in the Battles of Culloden, and Matinico. He fought in the Battle of Havannah in 1763, wounded at Las Navira. He was mentioned in despatches. 1 He fought in the American War of Independence, the Battle of Crown Point, the Battle of Montreal, and the Battle of Ticonderoga.
He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.). He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Athenry from 1763. He held the office of High Sheriff in 1768. He lived at Abbert, Monivea, County Galway, Ireland.
He died on 25 July 1789.
