It should be noted that, while the story in the Alvord genealogy may have been believed in the Connecticut family, it was fiction in the form presented. Eunice's father, Judah Leaming, was a descendant of Christopher Leaming, who left England in about 1670, landed in Boston, and subsequently settled in Southampton on Long Island. His son, Jeremiah Leaming, Judah's grandfather, left Southampton and settled in Connecticut Colony. Christopher apparently had a brother named Jeremiah who died on the voyage from England.
