Dorothy was born in 1916. She was the daughter of Ralph Minnick and Mae Rowles. She passed away in 2002.
Dorothy Minnick Mooney, 86, passed away Friday, October 11, 2002, from a short illness. Born March 21, 1916, in Sophia, she was the daughter of Ralph and Mae A. Roles Minnick. Mrs. Mooney was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School [class of 1935] and Beckley College. During World War II, she joined the WACS and then the Allied Air Force. She was stationed in Berlin and participated in the German Airlift. She was a teletype operator and attained the rank of sergeant. She was honorably discharged in 1945. At one time, Mrs. Mooney was a Girl Scout leader in Beckley. She was an active member of the Shepherd Center, an avid Bridge player and a member of the Fidalis Sunday School Class at Beckley First Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Carl Mooney; and numerous nieces and nephews, including, Patricia Hughes of Bradley, Jane Thomas Marks of Charleston, Sarah Thomas Prochaska of Atlanta, Mary Mooney Biel of Columbus, Ohio, C.W. Minnick of Kentucky and Jeanie Tennant of Bradley; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ella Thomas of Beckley. Service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Dr. David Carrico officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
