Edward B Booth was born on 11 Jan 1866 in Taunton, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA as the seventh child of William Duncan Booth and Mary E. King. He had six siblings, namely: Thomas H, William E, George Richard, John, Chas F, and Frederic W. He died on 11 Aug 1929 in Fall River, Bristol County, Massachusetts, USA. When he was 24, he married Sarah E. Wood on 07 Jan 1891 in Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA.
Edward B Booth was living in Taunton Ward 8, Taunton, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA in 1870. By 1880 he was living in Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA where he lived for the rest of his life.
Edward and Sarah had the following children, all born at Fall River, Bristol County, Massachusetts, USA:
Edward was born on 11 Jan 1866 at Taunton, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA to William, a Boilermaker and Mary E Booth. [1] [2]
In 1870 Edward aged 4 was living with his parents William (39) a Moulder and Mary E (41) and brothers Thomas H (19) a Moulder, Chas F (9) and Frederic W (7) at Taunton Ward 8, Taunton, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA. Also present were Margaret Kellot (71) and Elizabeth Shaw (50). [3]
In 1880 Edward now aged 14 was still living with his parents William (48) a Boiler Maker and Mary E (51) and brothers Charles F (19) and Frederick W (17) at Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA. There were 6 boarders. [4]
Edward would have been 22 years old when the Great Blizzard of 1888, also known as the Great White Hurricane struck the East Coast of the USA on March 11 - 14. Much of the area was paralyzed with snowfalls up to 147cm and winds in excess of 72km/hr. Road, rail and telegraph infrastructure was disabled as were emergency services. People were confined to their homes without heat or access to food for up to a week by the 30 to 40ft average snowdrifts covering their homes. More than 400 people died as a result
At the age of 25 Edward married Sarah E Wood aged 22 on 7 Jan 1891 at Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA. [5] [2]
Edward (35), a Day Laborer, was living in rented accommodation at 137 Fifth Street, Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA in 1900 with his wife Sarah E Booth (28), daughter Sarah E Booth (6) and sons Edward B Booth (5), Thomas H Booth (3) and Charles J Booth (1). Also present were Brother-in-Law Thomas H Verra (30) and Father-in-Law John Verra (70). [2]
In 1910 Edward (44), a Laborer in the Street Department was still living in rented accommodation but at Fourth Street, Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA with his wife Sarah E (38), daughter Sarah E (16) and sons Edward B (14), Thomas H (13), Charles J (11), George W (8) and Etta V (1y, 1m). Also present were boarders Thomas H Tera (36) - probably Brother-in-Law Thomas H Verra - Edward Mcginess (23) and Etta V Sullivan (22). [6]
Edward (53), a Laborer in steel work, was still living in rented accommodation at 197 Rodman Street, Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA in 1920 with his wife Sarah E (49), daughter Sarah E (26) and sons Edward B (24), Thomas H (22), Charles J (20), George W (17) and Etta V (10). Also present was Brother-in-Law Thomas H Verra (46). [7]
In 1922 Edward was living with his wife Sarah and sons Edward B, a student, Charles J and George at 197 Rodman Street, Fall River, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA. [8]
Edward died on 11 Aug 1929 aged 63 and at the time was living at 376 Ridge Street, Fall River, Bristol County, Massachusetts, USA. He was buried at Saint Johns Cemetery, Fall River, Plot 4, Row 16, grave 3. [9] [10]
An obituary appeared in The Boston Globe, Boston, Massachusetts, on page 4 on Tuesday, August 13, 1929, that read as follows: EDWARD B. BOOTH DEAD FALL RIVER, Aug 12. "Edward B. Booth, an employee of the Street Department for many years, father of Rev Edward B. Booth, assistant pastor of St Killians Church, New Bedford, died last night at his home 378 Ridge St. Mr Booth was born In Taunton, but had been a resident of this city for many years. He had retired from active service In the Street Department a few years ago. Surviving Mr Booth are four sons, Fr Booth, Thomas H., Charles J. and George W. Booth; two daughters, Miss Sarah E. and Miss Etta V. Booth, all of this city."
The paternal relationship is confident supported by an AncestryDNA test match between John Mayes, JB his 4th cousin 1x removed, BA his 5th cousin and JT his 5th cousin 1x removed. Their most recent common ancestors are Richard Booth and Betty (Pimley) Booth, John's 4th great grandparents. Predicted relationship from AncestryDNA: with JB 4th–6th Cousin based on sharing 21 cM across 2 segments, with BA 5th–8th Cousin, based on sharing 17 cM across 2 segments and JT 5th–8th Cousin, based on sharing 10 cM across 1 segment.
As Edward (35) was living in 1900 with Brother-in-Law Thomas H Verra (30) and Father-in-Law John Verra (70) that suggests that his wife Sarah's family name was Verra. However, the marriage record for Edward and Sarah indicates that Sarah's father was John Wood. It is reasonably certain that the marriage and 1900 Census records for Edward and Sarah represent the same people. The three most likely possibilities are that Sarah's marriage name, Wood, was adopted for some reason, that she was brought up as an adopted child or that she had been previously married. Further evidence is required. [2]
