Biography

John Harpin M.D. was a Huguenot emigrant (1540-1790).

Jean was born in around 1691 in France. He was the son of Louis and Jeanne (Duchesne) Harpin. Jean would leave France for America sometime around 1710 and arrived in Milford, New Haven, Connecticut Colony. Jean studied medicine at some point and became a medical doctor, most likely before he married.

On January 8, 1718, Jean married Mary Camp, the daughter of John and Mary (Northrup) Camp, in Milford, Connecticut.

They would have the following children:

Mary (Harpin) Buckingham (1719–1776)

John Harpin (1721–1721)

Dr. John Harpin (1722–1791)

Ann Harpin (1724–1742)

Nathaniel Harpin (1726–1727)

Elizabeth (Harpin) Andrews (1728–1760)

Ester (Harpin) Whiting (1730–1769)

Anthony Harpin (1733–1738)

Jean passed away in 1764 at the age of about 74 years. His body is buried in Connecticut.

Jean's tombstone reads:

"In memory of Doct. John Herpin who was born & educated at Rochfort in France, practised Physick & Surgery in this place 50 years with much reputation & success and died Nov 14th 1765 AEt 74."
