Jane Osborne was born in 1823 in Warwickshire, England, the daughter of John Osborne and Mary Clarke and the sister of Archibald Osborne, Jane Osborne, William Osborne, John Alexander Osborne, Alick Osborne, Isabella Osborne, Anne (Annie) Osborne and Mary Osborne.

She married William Devenish Meares on 14 July 1846 in the St Michael Church Of England Schoolhouse, Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia ^[1] and their children were William Devenish Meares (1847-1923), Mary Devenish (Meares) (1848-1905), Matthew C Devenish Meares (1850-1924), Fanny A Devenish (Meares) Stacey) (1852-1934), Florence J Devenish (Meares) Davy (1854-1925), Archibald Devenish Meares (1857-1929), Henry O. Devenish Meares (1860-1939)and Edith L. Devenish Meares (1862-1939).

Meares: Amongst the obituary records of the week we have to note the passing of Mrs. W. Deverish Meares, mother of Mr. C. D. Meares and Mrs. Beauchamp Stacy, of Mudgee. The deceased lady with her late husband, went to reside at North Sydney, on Mr. Meares retiring from the position of police magistrate, mining warden, and coroner for this district. Except for the infirmities of age and fleeting years, the deceased enjoyed comparative good health. But the signs of final breaking up, were in evidence for some time past, and members of the family were summoned to the bedside to await the end, which came on Tuesday last, at the age of 84. In the midst of the sorrowing circle, the spirit passed from the frail body, to join the eternal and be at rest. The interment took place on Wednesday.
