Biography

John Pond may have been the oldest child and born before the family settled in Dedham. No record of his birth or baptism has been found. In his father's will John is listed first and the living sons are listed in birth order.^[1]

"He was a husbandman, and March 28th, 1698, was allotted a grant of eleven acres of timber land, and seven acres on the brook at "long walk." The records of his marriages, by the destruction of the church books at Wrentham, are lost. The dates of his own and two wives' deaths have not been preserved, neither is there any record of the administration of his estate. He was living in 1734, and Aug. 29, 1727, gave one half of all his Wrentham lands to his son John."^[1]

John Pond was thrice married. September 1686 in Groton, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America. His given name is omitted in the record which reads: "____ Pond of Wrentham, Son of Lieut. Daniel Pond of Wrentham, was marryed unto Hannah Hill, Daughter of old Goodman Hill of Sherborn Sept. 30^th 1686 Before Daniel Gookin sen^R Justice of peace."^[2][3] Hannah died on 2 January 1691 in Wrentham, United States.^[4]

Two children were born to John and Hannah:

• John Pond, b. about 1688.
• David Pond b. 2 April 1690.

His married a second wife, Rachel, about 1692 or 1693. They had two children in Wrentham. She died about 1696.

The issue of John Pond and Rachel were :

• Rachel Pond, b. 19 October 1695^[6]

He married his third wife, Judith, about 1697. They had five children in Wrentham.

• Judith, b. 26 February 1698/9^[7]
• Abigail, b, Sept. 19, 1700. '
• Israel, b. March 29, 1702.
• Joseph, b. April 18, 1704.
• Ebenezer, b. Feb. 20, 1705-6 ; died July 9, 1727.

Judith, his last wife, died April 26, 1708.
