Biography

It is estimated that he was born about 1789. The birth may be seen as being in Virginia but there is no documentation of this nor of a father also named Richard who was born in England.

He married Harriett Perry on 29 Sep 1811, Alexandria, District of Columbia.[1] This was when Alexandria was still part of the District.

In the War of 1812, served as a Private in Capt West Peyton's company of the D.C. Militia.[2]

Newspaper accounts show that he passed away in mid-November, 1846. See Research Notes. It may be seen that he was interred in the https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/231403471/richard-stanton in the Winchester Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee but this is undocumented. Burials in the cemetery were halted in 1874 with it later being turned into a park (there are no grave markers remaining) and most, but not all, interments moved to Elmwood Cemetery.
