Harry Capito is a part of US Black heritage.

Harry was born in 1884 in Belmont County, Ohio. He was the son of Abram Lewis Capito (1845-1920) and Ella Williams (1857-1911).

The 1900 Census[1] shows him at age 16 in the home of his parents in Bellaire, Pultney Township, Belmont County, Ohio. He is working as a day laborer.

He married Ethel Robinson on 28 Apr 1904 in Belmont County, Ohio. [2] Their known children:

  1. Virginia (Capito) Greene (1907–1990)
  2. Constance (Capito) Cardwell (1912-1938)
  3. Vivian Laverne (Capito) Mason, aka Campbell (1913–1992)
  4. Alvin H. Capito (1916-1987)
  5. Laverne (Capito) Bolden, aka Shefferson (1918–Deceased)

The 1910 Census[3] shows him at age 25 with his wife, one daughter, and three boarders in South Sharon, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. He is a laborer for a steel company.

His World War I Draft Registration Card[4] gives his full name and exact date of birth. He is working as a conveyorman for Carnegie Steel Company. His nearest relative is his wife, Ethel Capito, at his same address: 1106 Hamilton, Farrell, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. He is described as short and medium build, with brown eyes, black hair, and his left leg off.

The marriage ended in divorce sometime before 1919, when his wife married subsequently. [5]

The 1920 Census[6] shows him at age "32" with a niece in Farrell, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. He is marked as married, but there is no wife present. He is a craneman at Carnegie Steel.

The 1930 Census[7] shows him at age "40" as a roomer in the household of Charles Jackson in Farrell, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. He is a mixer at the steel mill.

He died in 1939 in Pennsylvania,[8] [9] and is buried at the Greenwood Cemetery in Pultney Township, Belmont County, Ohio.[10]
