Friedrich Heinrich von Weißenfels was born 9 November 1728, likely at Elbing or Preußisch Holland, to a Prussian family of minor nobility. His father, Carl Georg, was Erbherr—hereditary lord—of Spittels (today Gołąbki), an estate about a mile and a half east of Preußisch Holland, and where he was baptized on the following fifteenth.
Frederick was married first to Mary Shurmur on 16 December 1756.
