Edmund Paull was likely/possibly her father. There is no evidence that Edmund Paull and Marian Fulton were married, other than their entry in the 1880 USC. Interestingly, Etta Lamont is listed there as his step-daughter of age 9 months, even though Marian's first husband Robert J Lamont had died in 1874. Her birth record on 20 Aug 1879 in Newark NJ under (no first name) "Paul" listed Edmund Paul as her father.
The 1880 USC shows the family's record in the same household as: Paul, Edwin 60 Married Saloon Keeper England Eng Eng Paul, Annie 27 Wife Married Keeping house England Eng Eng Lamont, Robert 9 Stepson New Jersey NJ Eng ______, Mary E 7 Stepdaughter New Jersey NJ Eng ______, Etta 9/12 Stepdaughter New Jersey NJ Eng <- note: father from NJ like her (step?)siblings. Marian's first husband Robert J Lamont's place of birth could be in NJ/NY/England/France, depending on the source.
So which record is false: the birth record or the census record? I choose the birth record, but there are certainly a lot of questions. Unfortunately, Etta likely died early with nothing found in the 1900 USC.
