Bernice Eulalia Calloway Monroe was an American radio talk show host and the older sister of famed bandleader Cab Calloway.

Bernice Calloway was born in 1904. She was the daughter of Cabell Calloway and Eulalia Reid.

She passed away in 1992.

Bernice Eulalia Calloway Monroe, who was host of a radio talk show in her native Baltimore, died Oct. 14 of pneumonia at a hospital in Ithaca, N.Y., two months after moving to nearby Dryden, N.Y.

A requiem Mass for Mrs. Monroe, 88, will be offered at 10 a.m. Nov. 21 at St. James Episcopal Church, Lafayette and Arlington avenues.

The former Bernice Eulalia Calloway was one of six brothers and sisters, including two who became well-known as singers and orchestra leaders,

Cab Calloway, who became known as the "Hi-de-ho" man because of his rendition of "Minnie the Moocher" and whose stage credits include the role of Sportin' Life in "Porgy and Bess," is one brother. Formally Cabell Calloway III, he lives in White Plains, N.Y.

Ms. Monroe was a graduate of Douglass High School and what is now Morgan State University and earned a doctorate in surgical chiropody at the Illinois School of Chiropody.

She practiced for two years in Mason City, Iowa, before her marriage in 1931 to Clarence Lee Edward Monroe, who then taught biology at Morris Brown College in Atlanta and has since retired from the faculty of Morgan State University.

They came to Baltimore in 1942 and at various times she managed a ladies shop, the Charm Center, sold Afram Cosmetics for a company owned by a sister and was host of the talk show, "Know Thy Neighbor," on WWIN-FM Radio.

She also organized debutante cotillions for the Me-De-So Club in Baltimore and for the Philadelphia Chapter of the Girl Friends.

In addition, she belonged to several social clubs in Baltimore, including the local chapters of the Northeasterners and Jack and Jill, the Pierians, the Quettes and the Faculty Wives Club at Morgan.

In addition to her husband and brother, her survivors include a son, Michael Calloway Monroe of Dryden; a sister, Camilla Coverdale of Philadelphia, and a grandson.

Another sister, Blanche Calloway Jones, a singer who also had her own orchestra, died in 1978.
