Biography

Abraham was born about 1710.

He married Barbara Mosiman in Holland in 1735.

Abraham Schmutz arrived in America on Ship Francis and Elizabeth on 21 Sep 1742. Settled in Lebanon, PA in 1744.

They had a daughter named Anna Catherine Smitz.

He passed in 1774.

Harrisburg Publishing Co., Annual volume, 1900. Page 53. States that he and his wife, Barbara, died" in the vicinity of Avon, Lebanon Co."

From Wayne Smoot 7 May 2017: I finally tracked down a detail about Abraham Schmutz (the 1742 immigrant to Philadelphia): my 1774 estimate of his death date. It comes from the final paragraph the Lancaster Co. court clerk appended when registering Abraham's Will, 29 March 1776. This paragraph at end of 1776 will entry (p. 392) limits Abraham's death to be before his will was filed at Court (my emphasis added): " Be it remembered that on the Third Day of May Anno Domini 1774 the Last Will and Testament of Abraham Smutz late of Lebanon Township in the County of Lancaster Yeoman deceased was proved in due Form of Law and Letters Testamentary thereon were granted to Isaac Snively and John Light the Executors therein named they being first duly qualified well and truly to administer the Estate of the Deceased and to exhibit a true and perfect Inventory thereof into the Register's Office at Lancaster on or before the Third Day of June next [i.e., 1776] and to render a true and just Account of their Administration on the said Estate when thereto lawfully required. Given under the Seal of the Said Office S/S Edward Shippen, Register " In plain words he was deceased by 3 May 1774. Most everyone is showing 1776 for a d.o.d, which is the date Probate began on his complicated estate.
