Atahualpa Inka was born about 1502 in Cusco, Peru and was the son of Huayna Cápac, an Inca Emperor.
In January 1531, a Spanish expedition landed on Puná Island consisting of 169 men led by Francisco Pizarro on a mission to conquer the Inca Empire.
Atahualpa reigned from April 1532 until July 1533 and was the last effective Inca Emperor.
On 15 November 1532 the Spaniards arrived at Cajamarca, Peru. On 17 November 1532 the Spaniards sacked the Inca army camp, in which they found great treasures of gold, silver and emeralds. They captured Atahualpa and held him captive until his execution on 26 July 1533. He was buried on 29 August 1533 in Cajamarca, Tawantinsuyu.
He was succeeded by Túpac Huallpa (as puppet Sapa Inca of the Inca Empire).
