Hello Karen, I'm following up on a family story, I'm wondering how WikiTree can help. Basically my 2nd great-grandfather's mother was a princess, and he was a illegitimate child of her, and my 3rd great grandad. However, there is a issue with legitimacy I want to discuss which is roughly along similar lines, my 2nd great grandfather married a lady called Katherine, however I have taken two DNA tests and I don't DNA match with her family, regarding this the family rumour was that there was an affair that happened, could my great-grandfather be the result of an affair? For a brief time, my 2nd great grandad was at the peak of society, despite not being upper-class he was receiving funds for him and his family to live their life comfortably from a third-party source, probably his mother's family if they recognised him, he even went to Cambridge University and was the first one in his area to own a car. I'm not really sure where to start, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that he may have met a woman and my great-grandfather was her son. Unfortunately when my grandfather died aged only 33 when my grandad (still alive) died of septicaemia, due to my great-grandmother coming from a working-class background she was shunned out of the family because of her lower status. I'm quite confused really, I hope you can help,

Kind regards,

Adam Scott

I suggest you upgrade to a Family member and start adding your relatives and building up to your great grandfather. Regarding the drama in your family, I don't know how you would prove anything with sources from Familysearch or Ancestry, but you need to add sources to any profiles you create here.

If you want to communicate with cousins or others about genealogy (whether or not you want to add profiles on our single family tree, you can upgrade at no cost to the Family Member level at any time by adding your genealogy communication preferences.

Help:Membership

To do this, please click on the upgrade link on either your navigation or profile page.

After you have upgraded, I would suggest that you go to the profile manager of any direct family members you find that are already on Wikitree, and ask him/her to put you on the trusted list. This will allow you to make all of the changes necessary to your direct family members.

Good luck,

Karen
