Reverend Cecil Ivory was a Presbyterian minister, disability rights activist and sit-in leader during the Civil rights movement.[1]

Cecil Augustus Ivory was born in 1921. He was the son of Felix Ivory and wife Edna. Cecil's mother later married John Stitt. In the 1930 census Cecil (age 10) was the stepson (step son) of John Stitt at 1231 14th Street, Arkadelphia, Clark, Arkansas, United States.[2] Cecil registered for the draft on 1 July 1941 in Arkadelphia, Clark, Arkansas. He lived with his mother at 1416 Davis Street, and was a student at Mary Allen Junior College in Houston, Texas.[3] Cecil earned a bachelor of arts from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.[4]

Cecil married Emily Richardson. Cecil and Emily were in a directory in 1945 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Emily was a button maker for Mrs. Isabel Maner. Cecil and Emily lived at 327 Beatties Ford Road.[5] In 1946 Cecil graduated from the School of Theology at Johnson C Smith University in Charlotte.[6] In the 1950 census Cecil (age 29), Minister, was the married head of household in Rock Hill, York, South Carolina, United States.[7] Rev. Ivory was pastor of the Herman Presbyterian Church. He was also the president of the Rock Hill branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).[8]

Rev. Cecil Augustus Ivory died on 10 November 1961 in York County Hospital.[9][8] He was buried in Barber Memorial Cemetery, Rock Hill, York County, South Carolina, United States.[10]
