Biography

Caroline was a close fried of Susanna Jennings, with whom she shared artistic interests. In Susanna's will, [1][2] she remembers Caroline, the Countess Dowager Aylesbury:

I give and bequeath to my good friend Caroline Countess Dowager of Aylesbury the different volumes of my works.

Caroline died in 1803 at the home of her daughter, Ann Damer neé Conway.
On Monday, at the house of her daughter (the Hon. Mrs. Darner), in Upper Brook-street, the Right Hon. Caroline CountessDowager of Aylesbury: her Ladyship was daughter of the late and sister of the present Duke of Argyle; she was first married to Charles Bruce Earl of Aylesbury, who left her a widow in February, I747; in December following she was married to the late General Conway, by whom she had the above daughter (Anne) who is widow of the Hon. John Darner, elder brother of the present Earl of Dorchester.[3]

At Hall-place, London, Francis Scot, Duke of Buccleugh in Scotland, and Earl of Doncaster in England, Knight of the Thistle, &c. His Grace was grandson of James Duke of Monmouth, eldest son of King Charles 11. and was born Jan. 11. 1694-5. He was restored by act of parliament,. March 23. 17.42 3, to his grandfather's forfeited titles of Earl of Doncaster, and Baron of Tindal. April j. 1720, he married Lady Jane Douglas, sister to the Duke of Queensberry, who died Aug. 31. 1729; by whom he had issue two sons and three daughters; the eldest of which, Francis Earl of Dalkeith, married Lady Caroline Campbell, eldest daughter of the late Duke of Argyll, Oct 2. 1742, and died April 1. 1750, leaving issue three sons and a daughter; the eldest of which, Henry Earl of Dalkeith, who was born Sept. 3. 1746, succeeds the late Duke his grandfather.[4]
