In 1802 Prevost was made governor of Dominica. On 15 Jan. 1808 he was appointed lieutenant governor of Nova Scotia and on 21 Oct. 1811 was commissioned governor-in-chief of British North America He was also made commander of British forces in North America.

Sir George Prevost, 1st Bt. was born on 19 May 1767.1 He was the son of Augustine Prevost and Anne Margaret Grand.3
He married Catherine Anne Phipps, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Unknown Phipps and Jane MacLeod, on 19 May 1789.1
He died on 5 January 1816 at age 48.1
He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the 16th Regt.1 He was Governor-General and Commander of the British Forces at North America.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in the service of the 60th Regiment.1 He was created 1st Baronet Prevost, of Belmont, Hampshire [U.K.] on 6 December 1805.1
