Charlotte Ewell Weems was born 7 January 1801 in Dumfries VA, the daughter of Parson Mason Lock Weems and Frances Ewell. [1] She died on Slade Plantation in Wharton, Texas, 5 March 1841.
Charlotte Ewell Weems married Henry Clinton Slade at Bel Air Plantation[2] on Mar. 21, 1820.[3] After the marriage the couple lived in Alexandria until at least 1823, when his father-in-law deeded three female slaves to his daughter and her son Henry Clinton "(and for any and all other children she might have) being the wife of Henry C. Slade of Alexandria, District of Columbia." After the death of his father-in-law in 1825, Bel Air passed into the possession of Henry Slade, who eventually sold it to Mason Locke Weems II in 1830.[4]
Charlotte and Henry Slade had children:
In doing Data Doctor work today about the children Margaret Wilhelmina, Cesar, and John who were born earlier than possible to Charlotte Weems, I couldn't find any definite source for Charlotte Weems on FamilySearch. I did look at family trees on Ancestry and found a Charlotte Weems married to Henry Clinton Slade with multiple children with him from 1821 to 1841, but didn't find her on those trees married to Henry Wright Gantt in 1824. Therefore, can't resolve issue of who is the mother of the three children referenced in this note.Lansing-1003 20:39, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
