Biography

Peter was born at Nakusp, British Columbia, Canada on August 20,1917. He was the son of Karel Aalten and Gertruida Versteegh [1]

When Peter was 31 years old he married Ruth Margaret Lawrence. They were married in Powell River, British Columbia on March 13, 1949 (source needed). She had two children from a previous marriage and they had one child together.

Peter was a mill worker for the Powell River Mill Company. On February 10, 1956 he was in an accident while driving a truck on their dock. The vehicle flipped over, landing on him and causing his death. He was laid to rest on February 14, 1956 at the Powell River Cemetery. [1] [2]


Pete Aalten Died in Dock Mishap
Former residents of Powell River now living in Nanaimo and district were shocked this morning to learn of the death at the paper town of Pete Aalten, 38, in an accident on the Powell River Company's dock. He was crushed beneath a "jeep" used for loading newsprint.
Extremely active in community affairs, Mr. Aalten was the son of Mrs. Joh Viertelhausen, pioneer resident of Lang Bay, 16 miles south of Powell RIver. He leaves his widow, two step-sons, a five-year-old daughter and a sister. (Nanaimo Daily News, 11 Feb 1956, Sat, p. 1)
Machine upsets, kills operator
POWELL RIVER --Pete Aalten, 38, driver for Powell River Co., was killed Friday night when his vehicle overturned on the company wharf.
Police said he was driving his small, open towing machine when the right rear wheel ran off the ramp. The vehicle toppled, crushing him to the dock floor. (The Province, Vancouver, British Columbia, 11 Feb 1956, Sat, p. 45)
