I went to a Civil War reenactment in Elgin, IL on 6/9/18. The Battery G, 2nd Illinois Light Artillery reenactors were there. When I told one of them that my great grandfather was in that unit he asked if I would like to fire a cannon. I did and it was a very memorable experience. The reenactors help keep history "alive".

My Dad, Mike Abell, gave me the top picture many years ago. He said the man on the left was his grandfather John Miller Abell, but he didn't know who the other man was. In 2001 I contacted Ron Moser who was writing a book on Abell's and other relatives. He sent me the same picture saying the man on the right was his gggrandfather Benjamin Franklin Abell with his brother John. What a find!
