Biography

Greenfield was born in Barbourville, Kentucky in 1812. He was the son of Randolph Adams and Sarah Herndon. He married 1st Mary Renfroe. They have 3 children: Alexander, Thomas, Amelia. He married 2nd Josephine Stokes on 27 Nov 1860 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They have 5 children: Eliza, John, Richardson, Henry, Woolman. He passed away in 1884. Burial in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania

Green studied Law, passed the Bar, and started his career as a lawyer in Barbourville, Kentucky. His political career started in 1839 when he was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives. He served as Representative of the Kentucky's 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives for the Whig Party from 1847 to 1849. And again, from 1859-1861 for the Opposition Party. In between, he was a judge for the Circuit Court of Kentucky from 1851 to 1856. After the end of his 2nd tern in the U.S. House of Representatives, he was appointed as the 6th auditor of the United States Treasury Department for 1861 to 1864.

Served two terms as US Representative from Kentucky, 1847-1849 and 1859-1861.[1]
