Biography

William Reece Aday was born on 7 March 1846 in the state of Arkansas. He was the son of Robert W Aday and Mary Sarah Aday. ^{[citation needed]}

In 1850, at the age of four, he was living in Southern Division, Marshall County, Mississippi, with his parents, Robert (Age 30) and Sarah (Age 27), and three siblings: Margaret E (Sister, age 8), JKohn S (Brother, age 7), and George M (Brother, age 1). ^[1]

In 1860, at the age of 14, he was living in Township 5 Range 2, Marshall County, Mississippi, with his parents, Robert C and Mary, and five siblings: Emiline (Sister age 17), John (Brother age 16), George (Brother age 12), Lucinda (Sister age 6), Charles Brother age 2). ^[2]

During the Civil War, he served on the Confederate side, with the Arkansas Infantry. One source says it was with Company H of the 2nd Regiment. He enlisted as a Private and left as a Private. ^[3] Another says it was with Company K, 14th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry (Powers). This record again has him enlisting as a Private and being discharged as a Private. ^[4]

In 1870, at the age of 23, he was living in Township 6 Range 1, Marshall, Mississippi, with his parents Robert and Mary, and three siblings. ^[5]

He married Sarah Jane Aday on 25 August 1881 in Tate County, Mississippi. ^[6]

In 1900, at the age of 54, he lived in Justice Precinct 5, Ellis County, Texas, with his wife, Sarah, and five children: Robert (Son age 18), William (Son age 16), John (Son age 14), Roman (Son age 12), and Mary (Daughter age 9). ^[7]

In 1910, at the age of 63, he was still living in Ellis County, Justice Precinct 5, with his wife, and five children. Robert Felix has married and is living with his wife in Justice Precinct 1. They have adopted a daughter, Mattie L Aday. age three. He was a farmer. ^[8]

William passed away on 26 December 1910 in Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas. She is buried in Waxahachie City Cemetery, Waxahachie. ^[9]

Research Notes

The 1850 census has the surname as 'Eddy'. That is how it is spelled without any interpretation. Individuals agree with the family's first names. There was a 15-year-old girl living with them. There is no indication of her relationship to the family.

There are additional Civil War records for W R Aday than the two above. ^{[3] [4]} They have less information and some giving different units.

The 1910 census shows William and Sary Jane have an adopted daughter, Mattie Lou Aday, age three. She is the daughter of John Robert Aday and Frances Myrtle (Adams) Aday . William and John Robert are first cousins, once removed. Frances died five days after Mattie Lou was born. With eight children between three and fourteen, I can understand why they would adopt her.
