Judah was born in 1800. He was the (informally adopted?) son of Peter Allard and Betsey Martin. He passed away after 1875. He was probably married twice, first wife may have been a Pettibone. Daughter Florinda. His second wife was Camilla Carr, who is better documented.
Judah's parentage is unknown, but it is believed he was part of the Thomas Newbold Martin family. As a child, Judah Martin (not Allard) is found among the children of Thomas Newbold Martin, warned out of Sheldon VT in 1816. This was a family that was impoverished for two reasons: a) the mother of the family, Lydia Martin, had died about 1806. b) the father of the family, Thomas Newbold Martin, had been injured in the Revolution so that he could not labor for his living, and he had a large family of children he could not support. He had remarried after his first wife died, and can be found with his second family in 1810 in Castleton and also being warned out of Orwell in 1816. (1816 was a bad year for the Martins. First family and second family.) The first family included young adults, who apparently lived together as a unit, but because of their questionable resources, they were warned out of Sheldon. This does not mean they left Sheldon, as some of the children can be followed into farming and marriage in and around the area. Whose child Judah was has not been determined, but when eldest sister Betsey married Peter Allard, they can be found in the census of , without Judah. By 1820, Judah appeared as part of that family, with the name Allard. I suspect he is a child of one of Betsey's siblings, but the Allards brought him into the family as they were the ones able to care best for him. Adams-21565 20:39, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
