Biography

He left North Carolina in 1846, just ahead of the sheriff, wanted for counterfeiting money - see court record filed by his brother, Joseph, for details. Finally settled in Arkansas, where descendants are today in the Hot Springs and Little Rock area. The Spring Lake News, Spring Lake, North Carolina, read Mary: Daughter of William Mann and Denny Hauptman of Caswell County, North Carolina. Denny was half German and half Cherokee Indian.

November 15, 1931 in Hot Springs, AR and is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery and Mary Susan Allen, b. September 9, 1849 in Hot Springs, Arkansas and died on December 9, 1901 in Trent, Texas.[[1]]

1860 Census. Samuel Allen, Sr., age 46 b. NC was living at home with his spouse, Mary age 38 b. in VA, and four of his children: 1) Samuel, Jr., age 16 b. in NC; 2) John Allen, age 13 b. in NC; 3) Andy Allen age 12 b. in NC. and 4) Mary Susan Allen age 9 b. in AR. The two oldest had already left home. The census was taken in Cedar Township, Clark, Arkansas. This record also shows that there was a family living with them with the surname Christian. and one John J. Boxter. Note: Not sure who these people were at this time.^[1]
