John Wiley Alligood was born 15 January 1829 in Decatur Georgia to Wright Alligood and Ellenor Mann Alligood. They lived in Decatur until 1831.
In the Federal Census of 1850, Wright and Ellender and seven of their children were living in Laurens County, on one of Hillery#2's land portions. The oldest at the home was John W. (20 years old at the time) and the youngest was Thomas M. at age 6.[1]
About 1853, most of this group moved to Colquitt County, Ga. This new location was on the upper branch of the Ochlockonee River, about 40 miles above the Florida border.
Two years after the move to Colquitt County, Ga John Wiley married his cousin Tinsey S. Alligood. They married 8 March 1855 in Thomas County. See Marriage recorded Thomas County, 3/8/1855 Book "E" Page 219. John Wiley and Tinsey would have 6 children:
Martha Frances “Fannie” (b. 1 Jan 1856 –d. 5 May 1927)
Wiley Edward (b. 10 Oct 1857 - 17 Mar 1947)
James Everett “Jim” (b. 1858 – d. 10 Mar 1938)
Angline (b. 1860)
Sarah J. (b. 22 Apr 1860 – d. 11 Sep 1878)
Joseph Hillery “Joe” (b. 7 Apr 1865 – d. 12 Apr 1918)
Few records are found for John Wiley Alligood, but one interesting is that he served for the Confederates during the Civil War in Company H Fifth Regiment of the Georgia Infantry. John was 31-years old when the Civil War started. John was 36 when his last son Joe was born. John died two years after his wife Tinsey. John was 82 at his death in 1911.
