Amadon is not very well you may tell Richard. He has hurt his thumb badly. …
Munfordville, Ky., Friday, Nov. 18, 1862 (7 P.M.)
Dear Brother Robert,
Your last dated the 3rd, sent by Mr. Getty, was mailed by him, reached me in 2 or 3 days; but the papers you mentioned have not reached me yet. … Mrs. Getty writes me making inquiries respecting her husbands death. She appears to take it very hard, as well she may. I have referred her to my letter to you, through a letter I wrote for Mr. Amadon to his wife, I do not know that I can tell anything further concerning him. I might say, and I would like you also to mention it to his wife or relatives; that he fought boldly and bravely. He often spoke to me of fighting the enemy, without any dread of death on his account; but he had expressed to me that he should like to live for the sake of his wife and child; that he might be able to return home again to see his wife and little boy. He has frequently spoken to me of them. How he praised them! He showed me the miniature of his wife and child. He was a noble man, fine looking, and pure. …
Mr. S. Amadon says that a letter I wrote him, to his father near Painesville, in which I described our march and retreat from Lexington, was published in the Painesville paper. …
