John maintained a fairly strong fort on the Tenmile prior to 1776. In 1777, it was being used as a redezvous for the Frontier Rangers under Col. William Crawford. It was about 4 or 5 miles from Fort Jackson on the tract of land called Pocket Money, warranted to John Ankrom on 22 Feb 1788. Joseph Archer had an adjoining tract and John's brother-in-law, John Thrasher, lived just to the west of them.
John married Martha Wells, sister of William Wells. Their known children are:
Richard Duckett, m. Nancy Rinehart, dau. of Thomas and Hannah (Inghram) Rinehart, on 3 Jan 1798
William, m. Mary Eagon, dau. of Solomon and Mary (Blackburn) Eagon, removed to Pickaway, Ohio
Martha, m. Thomas Inghram, son of William and Agnes (Fee) Inghram, on 20 Dec 1804
Elizabeth, m. John Lakin
Sarah, m. Arthur Inghram
Deborah
Soon after receiving his land warrant, John died leaving a will, written 2 Nov 1782 and probated on 1 Feb 1789. His brother William Ankrom and his brother-in-law William Wells were named as executors of his estate and guardians of his children. William Ankrom refused to act and William Wells retained the patent for the land.
John's exact location at the time of his death is confused by having paid taxes on land in Cumberland and Franklin Townships in Washington County, Pennsylvania.
Note: John is named as deceased in his father Richard's 1790 will. John's sons Richard and William are also named.[1] John's children are mentioned as heirs in John's mother Elizabeth's 1796 will.[2]
