Biography

Birth

09 Jun 1888 Hubert was born in Stafford, Staffordshire, England.^[1][2][3]

Emigration

On 21 Mar 1891 the Anslow family set sail on the SS Norwegian from Liverpool, England bound for Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. There was Mr & Mrs Arthur Anslow both aged 25y, Mr & Mrs Edward Anslow both aged 60, and Hubert Anslow ( age incorrect at 6 years?). They were scheduled to arrive at Halifax on 31 Mar 1891. Their ship owned by the Allan Line and it was built in 1865 by Tod & McGregor, Glasgow,Scotland^[4].^[5]

Census

1891 Census of Canada: The Anslow family had just emigrated to Canada and were in Lodgings at Moose Jaw, Assiniboia West, NW Territories. Present were: Edward and Ann Anslow both 60yrs (Uncle & Aunt to Arthur?); Arthur and Rose Emiline Anslow, both 25yrs, and Hubert just 2 yrs. The Census was recorded on 10 Apr 1891.^[6]

Anslow; Wife; b. 21 Feb 1866 35y England; Immigrated 1891. Hubert A Anslow; Son; b. 09 June 1888 12y England; Immigrated 1891. Hilda M Anslow; daughter; b. 11 Aug 1894 6y Assiniboia, Canada. Cyril Arthur Anslow; Son; b. 14 May 1896 4y Assiniboia, Canada. Earnest George Anslow; Son; b. 14 Sep 1897 3y. Assiniboia, Canada. ^[7]

1906 Canada Census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. The Anslows had moved to Cottonwood, Saskatchewan, Canada. Another daughter had been born now aged 4yrs,( first name difficult to read).^[8]

1911 Fifth Census of Canada: All of the Anslow family had moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, Arthur was now a Farmer, and Hubert aged 22 a Labourer. Daughter Margaret Emily Anslow was now 9 years old.^[9]

1916 Census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. (Canada). Hubert aged 28yrs is now married to Myrtle and aged 18yrs and they have a baby daughter Marion 4 months old. They are living at Lumsden, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Hubert is a farmer.^[10]

1921 Sixth Census of Canada Hubert 32yrs is still living at Lumsden with Myrtle 23y, Marion 5y, and a new daughter Florence 1y. There is a servant living with them and Hubert is still farming.^[11]

Death

Hubert died in 1963 and was buried in Lumsden Cemetery, Lumsden, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.^[12]

His Headstone reads: 'Father. Hubert A. Anslow 1888 - 1963'^[13]

Research Notes

There does appear to be a doubt as to Hubert's year of birth. When the family emigrated to Canada the passenger manifest of the SS Norwegian gave Hubert's age as 6yrs placing his birth year as 1885. In the Census of Canada 1911 Hubert's year of birth was given as 1889 but his age as 26, again indicating the 1885 date. Hubert's Headstone records his year of birth as 1888 and this will be honoured.^[14]
