Grace was born in 1904. She is the daughter of Joseph Arnold and Mary Willhoite. She passed away in 1989.

Grace A. Shanks, 84, of El Paso died at 4 a.m. yesterday (Jan. 1, 1989) at Roanoke Apostolic Nursing Home, where she had been a patient since Nov. 28.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Remmert Funeral Home, Roanoke, John Hooper officiating. Burial will be in Roanoke City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 9, 1904, in Cooksville, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Wilhoite Arnold. She married Arthur C. Shanks on May 27, 1927, in Secor. He died Oct. 24, 1981.
Surviving are three sons, Donald, Loganville, Ga.; Brian, Carbondale, Colo.; and Bernard, Roseville, Calif.; a daughter, Jeanne Schirer, Roanoke; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A son, a brother and three sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Shanks taught in the Cooksville and El Paso school districts. She was a member of the Secor Church of Christ.
Memorials may be made to the Eastern European Mission and Outreach Effort of the Churches of Christ.
