Maria Baayens, daughter of Johannes Baayens and Geertje van Doon, was born on 19 May 1873 in Gorinchem, ZH, Netherlands. She married Oscar Ghislain Voituron on 2 Oct. 1890 in Gorinchem, with special permission from her father as she was underage. Her mother, Geertje, had already passed away when Maria married. Most likely because of Oscar Ghislain's profession as a stonemason (steenhouwer), the family moved from Gorunchem to Vreeland, to Amsterdam then to Delft, to Feluy, back to Amsterdam, then to Groningen, and then later to Antwerpen in 1900 or 1901. Oscar Ghislain died around 1903 in Berchem. A family register from Antwerpen indicates that on 5 Feb 1903 Maria Baaijens was registered as Head of the Household and that she was Widowed, living with one child, Henricus Carolus Voituron, at Feijnoordstraat No. 17. The next entry in this registry 13 Sept 1904 showed her status was changed from Head of Household and Widow to Married with François Schuit. She lived first on 2nd Lombardstraat No. 79. If the registry is interpreted correctly, she moved from Nijmegen where she lived with four children in the Volkstichting III. This family registration page shows that her eldest child, Louisa Geertruida moved to Gorinchem on 13 July 1903 and that Maria moved with the three younger children, Joanas Sylvius Ghislain, Nicolaas and Henricus Carolus Ghislain to Rotterdam. An entry under 'opmerkingen' (additional notes) showed an abbreviation 'gw 15 Aug 1903'. This could mean that she was widowed on that date, then moved from Antwerpen at Mannestraat No. 24., to Nijmegen and from there to Rotterdam. In fact Oscar Ghislain died in Berchem on 15 Aug 1903. On 1 Feb 1905 Maria married François Schuit in Rotterdam where they lived until François died on 25 Dec 1928 in Rotterdam. Maria died on 21 Nov 1965 in Rotterdam.
