Biography

Louisa Geertruida Voituron was born on 12 Feb 1891 in Vreeland, Utrecht Nederland. She was the eldest child of Oscar Ghislain Voituron, who worked as a stonemason, and Maria Baaijens. After her father died of lung disease around 1903, the children were housed in an orphanage as city officials decided a single mother with children wouldn't be able to care for them. My grandmother didn't fare well in the orphanage (according to my mother, Maria Biesheuvel), and my grandmother was moved to the care of her uncle who owned and managed a boarding house and restaurant. My grandmother worked there as a housekeeper for her uncle's boardinghouse.
