Death Notice [4]
Batchelor.—July 7, at New Plymouth, Uriah, eldest and beloved son of George and Charlotte Batchelor, of Nelson, and nephew of William Walker, late of the Imperial Hotel, New Plymouth, aged 36 years.

New Plymouth, July 7. A sad occurrence happened this morning. A party of three went out on a fishing excursion, and about nine o'clock one of them, Hugh Batchelor, well-known as Mr Walker's barman at the Imperial Hotel, suddenly dropped his oar, complaining that he felt faint and was not as good as he used to be. The party were about a mile out, when suddenly Batchelor fainted, and the party made for the shore as quickly as possible, but he expired before getting in. Batchelor looked a healthy man, and his death, which is supposed to be from heart disease, was very sudden. He leaves a wife and nine children.
Otago Daily Times, 8 July 1886.
