John was born in 1897 in DIckson, Tennessee. In 1917 he was living in Bradley County, Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I from 1918-1919.
John married Grover (aka Gladys) Howie around 1923. In 1930 they were living with 5 children in Cleveland, Tennessee where he was a porter with Southern Railway Company. He passed away in 1982 and is buried in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Cleveland.
